“We know there’s a great deal of interest on how a large group such as this, handles it's meetings at sea, along with enjoying all the amenities a cruise ship has to offer and the port-of-call visits along the way. So we’re inviting cruise enthusiasts to get a unique glimpse of the groups progress throughout the week,” said Marty Trencher, Cruise Direct Online's Managing Director. “Our online journal will offer a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the amount of work required to accommodate a group meeting at sea, as well as chronicle the group's more "social" side.
Members of the Cameracraftsmen of America will hold a Photography Workshop onboard, open to all passengers. The workshop "Digital Photography, Workflow and Design" offers a great opportunity for anyone to hone their photographic skills and gain insight from a group of professional photographers.
Cameracraftsmen of America was founded in 1905 in Iowa by a group of dedicated photographers for the purpose of exchanging ideas and working for the betterment of professional photography. Throughout the years, the organization has evolved into a group of highly talented individuals who meet annually to advance the profession of photography as an art. Membership is limited to forty individuals and is by invitation only. The members come from all over the United States and Canada.
Regarded as one of the oldest photographic organizations, they are considered to be one of the most professional and prestigious groups of photographers in America. This unique group of men and women seek to extract the highest possible results from their photography.
"Say “Alaska” and you think of majestic mountains, abundant wildlife, ice blue glaciers, vast wilderness, and a vibrant Native culture, a photographers paradise" commented Don Emmerich, the group’s leader. "Having our annual meeting at sea helps meet our goal to foster fellowship and perpetuate the ideals of photography as a science and an art. he added.
Cameracraftsmen of America members are accomplished men and women. The diversity of talent today can be seen in studios across the gamut of photography: portraiture, weddings, commercial, advertising, travel, editorial, experimental, film, video and fine art. Members have received recognition and notable honors for exhibited and published work. They have authored articles and served as program speakers, competition judges, instructors and mentors. Photography by Cameracraftsmen is represented in various museum, gallery, institutional and private collections, as well as numerous books and publications. Most have earned the Master of Photography, Photographic Craftsmen and Fellowship degrees and many hold active leadership roles in prominent photography associations.
"Having a group of professional photographers onboard Star Princess, not only presents a fantastic photographic opportunity for them, but also for the photos taken of their journey to be shared by many over the internet, with us, Princess and with their clients. "We are pleased that Cameracraftsmen of America let their imagination set sail , and choose Princess Cruises and Cruise Direct Online to make their 2009 annual business event a truly memorable one, on one the best ships serving Alaska" commented Raye Trencher, Director of Group Services for Cruise Direct Online. And she added: "Visiting Alaska has as much to do with what people may feel as with what they will see. There is a mystique that surrounds Alaska. Our job is to put that dream - or as much as possible of it - within reach. I couldn't think of a better way to motivate your membership than a luxurious, relaxing cruise to as exciting a destination as Alaska".
